Subtle Anatomy

In Western medicine, gross anatomy refers to the structure of the body that can be ascertained through the dissection and separation of parts. Ancient Eastern medicine also acknowledges this anatomy, but adds something further to the complexity of the human body: the subtle anatomy or subtle body. The subtle body is comprised of an invisible energy that balances anatomical functions through consciousness; it is the basis of mindfulness.

A Mindfull Body

Practicing mindful breathing is like strengthening your muscle of living in the present; as you practice more, you’ll find it easier to remain in the here and now, rather than being caught up in the past or in some fantasy about the future.
Living in the “now” tends to feel more peaceful and clear, even when external circumstances are difficult.  Mindfulness practice is not a prescription for tuning out the world; rather, it’s about tuning in with open and compassionate awareness.  Relating to life from this vantage point not only feels better, but often results in more skillful living.

Exercise To Build immunity

The energetic body consists of chakras which are “wheels of energy throughout the body”. There are seven main chakras, namely the Root Chakra, Sacral Chakra, Solar Plexus Chakra, Heart Chakra, Throat Chakra, Third Eye Chakra and Crown Chakra, which aligns the spine, starting from the base of the spine through to the crown of the head. “To visualize a chakra in the body, imagine a swirling wheel of energy where matter and consciousness meet.” Together, all seven chakras work collectively as a system.

Different aspects in your life can affect the healthiness of each chakra. You may experience inner struggles or physical ailments if a blockage occurs in any one of the chakras. By meditating and practicing awareness of your body, you can increase your consciousness of the chakras. Building this awareness is helpful in monitoring and maintaining your overall well-being.

We will learn a couple of seated asana's that will assist you with your daily health to maintain balance.

In This Topic we discuss briefly the Vagus Nerve
The vagus nerve (cranial nerve x) innervates the diaphragm [author’s correction – the phrenic nerve provides motor innervation of the diaphgram] but what failed to register in class is that the vagus nerve also innervates much of our viscera – in fact all of our internal organs with the notable exception of the adrenal glands. It supplies parasympathetic fibers to these organs, meaning that the vagus nerve is a “rest and digest” nerve, not a fight or flight nerve. Van der Kolk quotes from Darwin’s work, “the heart, guts and brain communicate intimately via a nerve” – the pneumogastric or vagus nerve – “the critical nerve in the expression and management of emotions in both humans and animals…. When the mind is strongly excited it instantly affects the state of the viscera.” This is, of course, why our guts react strongly to our emotional state.

We will chat about 3 different points and exercises to increase mental, physical and emotional health.

Mindfulness-based meditation was one part of the study. The participants were asked to practice it 30 minutes each day six days a week. The meditation involved focusing on the breath, while keeping eyes closed.

After the three months, the participants exhibited thickening in the prefrontal cortex of the brain. This is the area responsible for complex thinking, attention and personality.

Another focus of study was a three-month session based on “socio-effective competency,” involving meditation geared towards compassion, gratitude and dealing with difficult emotions. This also produced unique brain alterations.

Meditation - Cause and Effect

An overwhelming majority of us are seeking to bring forth positive and wholesome actions and behaviors in this world. We desire to improve ourselves, our relationships and our businesses. We want to see a better world emerge from these troubling times. One way to achieve this is to set your intention to be a wise and mindful leader in all aspects of your life. Those whose actions come from integrity cause wonderful effects everywhere they go.

A mindful leader leads from a position of mindful awareness, or mind strength, by knowing how to respond from awareness instead of reaction and how to make everyone on their team feel recognized, affirmed and valued. Mindfulness provides you with clarity and calm in a crisis, protecting you from the temptation to panic and jump from one bad situation to another or to blame others for the crisis and avoid looking at your role in it. Plus it gives you the power to change it.

Mindful communication is an extraordinary tool for problem solving. It allows you to tolerate the discomfort of confrontation with others and the embarrassment of discovering how you might have contributed to the problem. Mindfulness also allows you to find your creativity and resourcefulness, so that you can approach the situation differently and perhaps transform it. It helps you to easily tap into your core creativity to solve problems and achieve goals.

Bringing it all togeher.
