Weigh In Weight - End of Week 4

Sunday – 7th October
Well it is a beautiful Sunday morning, the weather is brilliant and it is that time to jump on the scales again……I have had a minor blip on the scales and have put on 400g since last week ☹

Picture

So the scales don't like me - End of Week 5 (400 gram weight gain) but the measurements are a big drop...

Picture
Start of Week 5, as you can see I have some losses with the measurements losing a total of 4cms off my body so that is a bonus ?
Picture
I realize we obsess with what our weight is on the scales, however that is not the be all and end all. I think if you can lose cm’s while having a minor blip in weight, it just means that your body is changing for the  better. I am starting to feel my clothes being looser around my waist and hips, so I am pretty happy with that.

Leisa and I hosted our beautiful family today for a BBQ lunch. Couldn’t ask for a better day for it. As we are prepping our food, we were going to put potatoes on the BBQ so we needed them cut nice and thin. So, I decided to pull out the mandolin chopping thingy to make the job quicker and easier. I hate these things as they are so dangerous, but thought if I use the protector on the veggies as we cut it should be fine…………..Well, let me just tell you MANDOLIN’S ARE DANGEROUS…….and I should have stayed away from it all together. As I was cutting the potatoes, my little finger decided it also wanted to have a bit off the top too, so with one quick slice, off goes the tip of my finger….. ☹   you can imagine the scene in the kitchen that day, it looked like a crime scene that I attend for work. After Leisa was able to get over her shock (poor love) and help me put some gauze around my finger, off I drove to the doctors to get them to have a look at it. Poor Leisa had to finish getting the rest of the lunch prepared and ready that day as the family were about to show up. She is a legend.

So, with a minor detour to get my finger dressed and a small delay to lunch, everything else went well. It’s always great to see my family and spend some time with them before they head back home to Queensland. Now I must confess, after the events of the morning, I didn’t quite make the best food choices when it came to our lunch. I did indulge in some potatoes that I sacrificed my finger for, as well as a number of beverages, most were vodka lime and soda, but I also had a beer, and then I did indulge in some of the amazing desserts that my family brought. My sister in law makes an awesome mars bar slice and mum made some beautiful blueberry muffins which we also added lemon butter to, oh my god it was delicious and worth the sacrifice. However, I know it isn’t going to really help on my journey, but every now and again is ok, so I will let it slide…….
Monday – 8th October
Today I was up nice and early to get myself prepared for a seminar that I was presenting to the ambassadors at Orora. It is a fantastic opportunity and appreciate the backing from this amazing company, as they have supported Leisa and me by using our services in a number of health & wellness initiatives they have in their company.

Not a whole lot to report today in the way of food, I had some leftovers from the BBQ (all the better choice stuff left over) and also some impossible quiche for dinner at work, which is a delicious recipe that Leisa and I cook up all the time. If you want the recipe, we can post it online for you as well. YUMMO!!
Tuesday – 9th October
Nothing much to report today, my food was still pretty good, and I didn’t do any exercise. I must admit I have been feeling pretty flat. I have been so busy that I just need to rest a bit I think. I still haven’t fully gotten over my cold and am just feeling a bit lethargic. So, a fairly non-eventful day today.

Wednesday – 10th October
Well it is mid-week and I know I have to just bite the bullet and do some exercise, just to keep moving.  It is soooooo easy to fall back into old habits, especially when you are feeling a bit lethargic too. So, on the bike I went for just over 30 minutes in which I burnt approximately 325 calories. That is always a good start and I do feel better for doing it. Not a lot else to report for today

Picture
Thursday – 11th October
So, today I thought I’d better get back on the bike to make up for the beginning of the week. Still feeling a bit lethargic, but I turn on the TV in the back studio and catch up on sunrise as I exercise on the bike so that makes it a bit easier ? today I went on for another 30 minutes and burnt 335 calories which is always good to start the day.

When I headed into work today for my afternoon shift, a colleague had gone and bought donuts for us all and there was one sitting on my desk……..I love donuts and it just smelled so yummy. I couldn’t knock back a kind gesture could I?.......so I ate it. Yep I ate the donut, the whole lot. It was delicious, but I did feel guilty for doing so. That is definitely not sticking to my better choice journey. It just happened to be at the time of the month where I was craving those sugary, yummy foods (ladies you know what I mean).

After getting home from work, one of Leisa’s oldest friends was visiting from NSW which was great to catch up with her. I indulged in one vodka, lime and soda and also on some chips that Leisa put out on the table. Yep, another poor choice. It is funny, when you eat something bad in the day, ie. The donut, you try and justify to yourself “well I already ate the donut, I might as well enjoy some chips as I have already been bad today. I can start again tomorrow”. Now admit it, we have all done that right? Will power definitely didn’t work for me today, so I can expect after this week, the scales aren’t going to like what I have put into my body.

Friday – 12th October
After this week’s efforts, especially yesterday’s junk food, I know I need to amp it up more with my exercise. So today I jumped on the bike again but went for a bit longer. I was sweating up a storm as today is a beautiful warm day, so that helped me feel like I was cleansing my sins of yesterday away a little more ? so today I went for 45 minutes and burnt over 500 calories, which is great.

Picture
I have mentioned before how I really don’t love going to the gym or being on gym equipment as I don’t really see the enjoyment of cycling but not going anywhere (although I do get to catch up on sunrise on the TV). So, I decided to go out and buy an actual bike. Unfortunately, at our last place, I had my bicycle stolen, TWICE. So, I haven’t had one for nearly 2 years. I had been doing some research over the last couple of weeks, so off I went and got myself a new set of wheels ?. I would much rather go for an actual bike ride to get my fix nature and beautiful weather while getting some exercise, than being stuck inside on a stationary bike.

After yesterday’s effort, I am going to try and have a bit of a fast day today as I need to recalibrate myself and get into the habit of eating only when I am hungry. We always get conditioned to eat because it is breakfast time, or “oh look it is midday, it is time for lunch”, but I have been finding that your body tells you when you are hungry and when that happens I will eat. This doesn’t work for everyone mind you, so be sure to listen to your body and know what works or doesn’t work for you.
Saturday – 13th October
Today Leisa and I went for a bike ride ?, I got her bike all cleaned up and ready to go so we can head for a little adventure and try out the new bike. I am so excited.

Picture
We went down linear park way, which isn’t too far from us at all and we headed toward the beach whilst stopping off on the gym equipment and play grounds along the way ? was heaps of fun.

We also caught up with my family for lunch today after showing them through our Intrinsic Mind Holistic Health & Wellness centre. We love showing people through as it is our pride and joy. We walked from the studio down to Melon and Rye, which is an amazing café which serves the best food. Leisa and I shared our food (as we always do) and we had zucchini and corn fritters as well as Thai chicken patties with a little bit of smoked salmon on the side, yum yum.

In Conclusion
All in all my week was definitely a bit of a challenge with many ups and downs. It is so easy to fall back into old habits, but it is even better to recognize this, accept it for what it was and move to making better choices the next time. It is all about mindset. The Better Choice Journey is one that can adapt to whatever your body type and constitution you are. We are all different and what works for one person may not work for another. Find the things you love to do and what works for you in the way of your better choices in food and exercise. This helps to maintain your connection of mind and body as it builds a better connection with ourselves as we become more aware of our needs, values and interests. This ability to self-regulate is important for our well-being and mental health.

Oh and for those who are interested, my finger is healing beautifully, except a little bit shorter….ha ha ha
