Importance Of Chaturanga
Engage simultaneous movements and actions: First, chaturanga teaches you to recruit and move multiple areas of the body simultaneously. Namely, the lower push-up position prompts you to: (1) engage the core; (2) shift the entire body forward; (3) bend the elbows. Similarly, bakasana crow pose (one of the first arm balance poses you may possibly learn) does something quite similar. Bakasana is “chaturanga-esque” in the arms, and core engagement is similar. However, in bakasana, legs and arms press into each other. In the lower push-up position the legs extend back with feet on the floor. In both, 3 key simultaneous engagements wrapped up in one pose gives these shapes form and structure.

Old conditioning keeps us from being free, because time and again we fall into old patterns that run too deep, while our new behavior, the one we wish we could have, has no groove to follow at all. This state of being trapped in old conditioning creates its own kind of awareness.
